Me-Ow
Words by Harry D. Kerr and Music by Mel B. Kaufman
Verse 1 (A section): Joe Brown's wife was lonesome and blue,
She wanted some kind of pet;
All day she cried, until he sighed,
"I'll search around the city till I find a kitty;"
So he brought one home just to see
If it would be company,
They made him a bed, out in the shed,
Happily "good-night" then was said, but...
Chorus 1 (trio): All night long Angora sang his song, Me-ow, Me-ow,
He gave a cabaret, but just one tune he'd play, Me-ow, somehow,
Wifey's longing for company changed, while he sang on merrily,
That ever taunting growl, that ever haunting howl, Me-ow, Me-ow.
Verse 2 (A section): All next day they gave him away,
But ev'ry time he came back;
A thing or two, Angora knew,
Each night upon the railing you could hear him wailing,
All the neighbors were kept awake,
So they took him to the lake,
Twice they had him drwoned, next day, no sound,
Then they went to bed all around, but...
Chorus 2 (trio): All night long Angora sang his song, Me-ow, Me-ow,
He gave a cabaret, but just one tune he'd play, Me-ow, somehow,
Folks say death and taxes are sure, But Angora's song will endure,
When Angel Gabriel blows you'll hear that cat of Joe's, Me-ow, Me-ow.
