This is a semi-automatic stone lithography press. The stones are laid on the press table where they are watered and inked. The paper needs to be laid manually before the press is started, then extracted manually once the impression has been made. Similar presses were used by Currier and Ives, although the imprint was made by tightening and loosening a large wheel on the top of the press.
